WORTH MORE: LETTERS TO MY GRANDMOTHER

  • Benjamin Roberts Office Interiors 240 North Prince Street Lancaster, PA, 17603 United States (map)

Artist and Illustrator Vania Hardy, our upcoming featured artist in The Artist Collage, will be showing her new collection of abstract paintings in a series called “Worth More: Letters to My Grandmother.”

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
”This show is a response to the life of my maternal grandmother, Marcy, whom I never knew but always found intriguing.

I collected stories and discovered the fascinating, heartbreaking life of a tenacious woman who deserved far more than the lot she was given. She raised 9 kids in the shadow of a cheating husband, in an era when women weren't educated, in a rural town in the Philippines, in the 1940's and 50's. This body of work is my small way of letting her beauty and value finally be seen and known, showing off the crown jewel that she was.

Most of the work in this show has a rustic, tropical feel and portray scenes from my grandmother's life in the Philippines. I'll also have expressive abstract pieces that address themes of community, family.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Vania is an artist and illustrator based in Elizabethtown, PA. Artistically, she is fascinated by unlikely juxtapositions. Her work expresses that with splashes of contrasting colors, along with a balance of structured lines and spontaneous strokes. She does both abstract and expressive realist work. Without always trying, she explores themes of home, identity, community, and legacy.
